HP Scan and Capture

Love it when people try to get around barriers and find ways to still download removed apps. Just read this article.

The question:
“How to Get HP Scan and Capture Software/App”
I see that HP has retired the HP Scan and Capture app.  This was a fantastic app to use.  I cannot find it on the HP site or in the Microsoft Store.  In the Microsoft Store there is a link to download, but when you click it you get sent to a description of the app.
Does anyone either have a working link to this app or know how to get this app?  I know it is not supported but to me it works much better and easier then the scan software that comes with the drivers of the HP MFP units.

The answer:
As you’ve discovered it’s now hidden on the Microsoft Store, I really wish HP would grab this nettle and either reinstate it or remove it completely. The official URL is https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/apps/hp-scan-and-capture/9wzdncrfhwl0
It’s still accessible via Adguard if you use the old Store link as the URL, that will get you a download link from http://tlu.dl.delivery.mp.microsoft.com
It’s not an https link so your browser might not be too happy with it and the .appxbundle file you need will need Developer Mode enabled as it’s not installing via M$ Store. Will only work if your drivers are supported though.  It’s a long-winded route but it is exactly the same package.

And some more tips:
Download the .appxbundle, you’ll need to switch on Developer Mode in your Windows Settings: Settings > Update & Security > For developers > slider for Developer Mode to On > Scary Message > OK
Then simply double-click the .appxbundle and it’ll behave like an installer stub. Once it’s installed switch Dev Mode off (basically never leave it on any longer than you need). The App will run and look for any HP Scanner drivers it can talk to straight away.

Thank you so much!
Have a nice day…
